Newspapers

Newspaper Club is an organisation that uses the downtime on newspaper printing presses. They provide a twice weekly service where you can have your own newspaper printed and they can do it very cost-effectively, even in tiny numbers. Our minds were whirring; how could we use this brilliant service; what could we print?

Then it occured to us. Michael is going to the Arts Marketing Association (AMA) conference in Glasgow, in a couple of weeks; why don't we produce a newspaper to give to the delegates? The timings were tight, if we were to get the paper despatched, ready to be inserted in the conference packs, we had a week to put together the whole paper, from scratch.

We put the whole 20page publication together with a new-found admiration for daily newspaper publishers. The papers were delivered to our studio and, to give them a finishing touch we folded, rolled and attached a band to each. Then they were all packed and sent to the AMA for their onward journey to Glasgow.

We had a lot of fun putting it together but ultimatley it's an investment - we want to impress the delegates at the AMA and prompt them to want to work with us. Fingers-crossed we'll be able to write a follow-up success story in the coming months.

A portrait of Ocky Murray, in black and white

We recreated the atmosphere of a real newsroom by setting ourselves a ridiculous deadline; it was great fun but I wouldn't want to do it every day.
