Uniting iconic venues via a website and branding

Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse

Branding Tessitura Website

To coincide with a major upgrade of the ticketing CRM (Tessitura) we delivered a slick new website and branding for Liverpool Everyman and Liverpool Playhouse, whilst giving each venue (and every production) the space to express their unique personality.

As we do with all big projects, we began with a full Discovery process. We toured the venues, went backstage, sat in the stalls and stayed for a show, ate in the cafe, drank in the bar and met face-to-face with various members of their team.

The Cog team were amazing... knowledgeable, supportive and patient. Their Discovery process helped us surface so many of our unique challenges, particularly around two venues, and it was a real collaboration with their team to resolve them.

A relaxed workshop in the theatre's basement cafe. A relaxed workshop in the theatre's basement cafe.

We ran a full team workshop, pulling in team members from across the organisation. We are always especially interested to get input from front-of-house staff as they get to talk and listen to the public.

From that Discovery work it was clear that there were three distinct challenges:

  1. With two iconic venues, 15 minutes apart, we needed to take full advantage of a united brand whilst clearly communicating that these were two distinct destinations.
  2. As both venues programme an eclectic mix of live entertainment, alongside their own stand-out productions, we needed a visual approach that could be distinctive enough to hold its own whilst providing the frame for a variety of content.
  3. The organisation needed to upgrade their Tessitura / TNEW system, concurrently. This gave us the opportunity to reinvent the ways they use their ticketing, CRM and donations platform.

A bold, confident typeface and a vibrant colour palette provided the starting point for an overhaul of their visual identity and marketing materials. We tweaked and reworked the font to provide maximum impact at any size.

Mixing and matching elements in a modular system, the identity is endlessly adaptable and still instantly recognisable.

We extended our work to print, providing templates and application examples that can accommodate the needs of any publicity materials.

For the website we built on the principles established through our Discovery process.

The site can accommodate all sorts of publicity materials and marketing imagery. Huge block-buster tours can sit beside local community gatherings and still maintain the cohesive look and feel.

The integration work with Tessitura, utilises TNEW plus our own API connection. The site automatically synchronises live data, ticket prices, running times and much more. Plus some special features, including showing ticket availability via custom button states.

With an increased emphasis on the need for donations, we also found ways to inserting additional support asks into the TNEW basket, and using the API to build automated TNEW links for specific campaigns and donation funds.

The new site is incredibly sleek with an intuitive customer journey. I particularly love the seat map, threshold markers, and the donation and fundraising features. Truly impressive work – you all must be so proud.”
Kerry Reeve – Senior Director, Europe Tessitura

The event pages are especially flexible, built in a modular system so our clients can continue building and expanding content as their own productions grow: from an initial announcement, through casting and rehearsals to the press night and then adding press quotes as the run continues.

The website has seen immediate positive results, not least through increased ticket sales and reduced customer friction, but also on encouraging donations. We couldn’t be happier and look forward to a long ongoing relationship.
