We helped the oldest public art gallery in England as they made the transition to the digital age.
The celebrated Regency architect Sir John Soane designed Dulwich Picture Gallery, built around a mausoleum where its founders are interned. The mausoleum is said to be the inspiration for the design of telephone boxes.
When we were appointed, the gallery used a mish-mash of visual styles, typography and logo variations.
We reworked and crafted every detail. We created a new, definitive mark, based on the profile of the mausoleum’s skylights – the innovative design that floods the gallery with light and has set the style for galleries throughout the world.
The typography and open graphic style were all chosen to suit digital outputs as the gallery were embarking on a digital transformation projects.
And we introduced a more sophisticated colour palette that mirrored the aesthetic style of the interiors.
The new branding can be easily applied in a flexible way across any material.
We created simple brand guidelines to codify the thinking and make it simple to apply consistently across a wide range of applications, both in print and across digital media.
We also produced some tight, grid-based templates to make it much simpler for their in-house team to create publicity and campaign materials.
